The Ruhija Gorilla Sector

The Ruhija Gorilla Sector: A Hidden Gem in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Situated in the Eastern part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, the Ruhija Gorilla Sector offers a tranquil and unique gorilla trekking experience. Unlike the busier sectors of Bwindi, Ruhija stands out for its peacefulness, breathtaking landscapes, and diverse wildlife. It’s the only sector where visitors can encounter both mountain gorillas and forest elephants, adding an extra layer of adventure to your safari.

Gorilla Families in Ruhija

Ruhija is home to three habituated gorilla families, providing visitors with opportunities to track these majestic creatures in a serene environment:

  • Oruzogo Gorilla Family
  • Bitukura Gorilla Family
  • Kyaguriro Gorilla Family

Despite having fewer gorilla families than other sectors, Ruhija’s trekking experience is just as rewarding. The sector is known for its quiet trails, offering trekkers a more intimate experience with the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Guided by expert trackers, you’ll hike through thick vegetation, steep terrain, and encounter various wildlife species before spending a magical hour with a gorilla family.
